Put Him in a Bodybag, Johnny

Watched some Karate Kid tonight, and forgot about how wonderful that movie is. Teen Wolf, The Boy Who Could Fly, and Back to the Future are the 80s que. A bit of weak links the last few days, not been up to my usual internet browsings.

-Gruesome Origins to Five Fairytales
-I hope I never get this nerdy/dorky/pathetic, or maybe I have since I knew what he was referring too...
-Vanity Fair's Hitchcock Portfolio. A fun look, althought I wish they could have done a little more Saul Bass with the layout.
-Stephen Colbert's Comments on the 3 hour closing of Starbucks
-Oh No. Talks of a Last Starfighter Sequel.
-Street Fighter IV might be coming to the Wii
-Have a listen to a new Tokyo Police Club song-In A Cave

What To Shave

I had this idea last night to illustrate different potential facial hair situations, so tonight, I did so. I exaggerated my facial hair a bit, but kind of hard to illustrate my sorry excuse for a beard. I was trying to illustrate to the similar style of Instructoart, which is a quite hilarious book.

Everyone Leaves

-A bit of a rough start this week. Not sure what it is, but it's getting harder to go to sleep and harder to get up in the mornings. Amoung other things, I was walking down the stairs at work yesterday, carrying this box of tins down, leaving from work. and somehow I missed the last step and fell down. Make quite the racket, as you assume, wiht me falling and dropping a box of tins. Hurt a little, nothing bad. Just made me mad because it ripped a hole in my jeans. 1 of 3 pairs I wear to work....boo. It was also nice out yesterday til like 5 or something, then it started getting cold and windy. have to love that Oklahoma weather...

-Beau Jennings Interview. The singer from Cheyenne, and steam his solo album. I haven't finished either of them.
-More Improv-The Mobile Desktop. I thought it was pretty hilarious.
-Shannon texted me to let me know that Firebrand was on last night. Thought this commercial was funny: Red Stripe-Sweater. And for those of you not familiar with Firebrand. it's an hour long show of just commercials. awesome.
-SNL's 'I Drink Your Milkshake.' There Will Be Blood humor.
-Girls claiming they were victims of prejudice because they were 'pretty.' I can just assume those girls are idiots and deserved it. I could go on a rant about it. but I won't.
-Snoop Dogg/Kirby remix
-Garfield minus Garfield
-Every Chair at the visual studies workshop. Not sure why there are so many of that one chair. still neat.
-Transforming Furniture. Via Mike & Heather
-Freshfonts. Versions of Helvetica using toothpaste & ketchup

-and those of you that have noticed our ever growing collection of toys, especially our Star Wars Mighty Mugs, I learned today that they are releasing Indiana Jones Mighty Muggs. I didn't think they would look as good, but I must say, that Mola Ram is looking pretty good. On the sidenote, the Marvel ones are supposed to come out next month as well.

Monday Lunchbreak

Just packing stuff at work, all the dust and dirt kind of makes me nauseated. Should be having new pictures popping up on my flickr this week of some shots I took around OKC with Shannon and Emily.

-3 Year Old Star Wars. This seems to be the viral video of the week.
-RetroSabotage. have to love the tetris compromise, harder than it looks.
-Ill-Advised Business Names/signs
-How to play iBand on the iPhone
-Trunk Monkey. Via Clint
-Someone's Typograhic poster collection. I've seen better.
-Quadruple Layer Bike.
-Typographic Synthesizer. Pretty neat idea.
-Corner Frames
-Passive Aggressive Notes. I guess this also proves I have OCD, because I hate when people leave time on the microwave.

Friday Night Links

I didn't quite get around to making a post last night, but here's a handful of links from yesterday and today.

-I quite upset I didn't get to see any of the lunar eclipse (due to clouds...stupid oklahoma), especially since everyone seems to have neat pictures online off it.
-Super Mario Galaxy if it was on SNES
-I wish I was as cool as this guy. Seriously though...
-Crazy Dinosaur Toy, involving a kid riding a Triceratops....
-Movie Cars spotted in the wild
-Josef Muller Brockmann Remix. I love Brockmann's work. You can view some of them here.
-Fusion Table. Making your dining table into a pool table. They fail to mention how awful it will be if you spill something at your dining table, having to clean it up, and your pool table.
-Keming. A new typography term.
-Sweet book/staircase
-Spacestation-a way to hide all those annoying cords for your laptop. I really like the idea, but not about to fork out 80 bucks for it.
-Elastico bookshelf

My birthday is creeping up, found a couple things you can buy me:
-Katamino. Looks promising, tetris board game/puzzle.
-Tetris Ice Cube trays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! only they aren't for sell yet. but if you could somehow get your hands on one, that'd be awesome.

And Super Cow. via Shannon.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Three days in a row. Madness.

-A Valuable Lesson
-Spinner's Top Band Logos. It's funny because I was trying to compile a list in my head like last week, but it's too late, this article is more comprehensive than my list would have ever been.
-28,000 People running a soccer club. I remember reading about it before, but was on yahoo today. I guess it's full swing now.
-This is a bit old, but hasn't happened yet. AMC is running a Oscars Promo this weekend. 30 bucks will land you unlimited popcorn and five movies. I've already seen half of the movies, which is all the movies I would want to see out of the bunch, but would be fun to watch them all again. I didn't pay attention to it when I first saw it because I didn't think OKC would offer it, but they are. This Saturday.
-It will never be the same. For those looking to waste a few minutes of the day.
-Apple soundtrack. Song comprised of Mac OS X sounds.
-Universal signs a deal with Hasbro. Not that exciting of news, but fun enough to see Best Week Ever's Top 10 Hasbro Toys They want to be made into movies. I can see someone wanting to do a Candyland movie. and it will be awful.
-41 Photos of Kids and their science experiments. Pretty funny.
-Apparently, pirating music means you own a handgun and have some crack. I was unaware of this.
-First Look at Mariokart for the Wii. I'm excited....
-Jake Shimabukuro playing some awesome ukulele. Watch it.
-Things I have Learned in My Life. Sagmeister's website for his new book (March 1st). I like the concept/idea behind it, yet I couldn't think of anything to contribute.

And babies? And babies.

A bit of an akwardly frustrating day today, on so many different levels: mentally, emotionally and physically. and I'm not really sure how to explain it. whatever. I'm in hopes that this week will progressively get better. Onto the healthy size of a blogpost:

-Five New Yorkers that wear one color every day. I think Shannon could have been on their for his black wardrobe.
-Rumplo. Nice site for T-shirts.
-Rembrandt Homer
-Movement Map: Someone tracked their son's, daughter's and cat's movement over an hour. somewhat interesting.
-World's Best Music Collection up on ebay. Let me just deposit the 3 mil over onto my paypal.

-and more importantly, I learned that Chip Kidd had a new book today, The Learners, and was released Today. It's the sequel to The Cheese Monkeys. I was excited, so I went out and bought it (Despite popular rumors, I do read......sometimes):
The Learners
You can also view Chip Kidd's promo for the book, on the youtubes: an experiment in form and content. Have to love the wicked witch and eminem one. I never knew that guy was such a character.

Other design notes.

-I recently saw the new EconoLodge logo, kind of a glance while I was in the car and couldn't believe it. Looked it up and sure enough, EconoLodge revamped their logo. and it is awful. and I think looks more of a toothpaste logo than a lodging.
-I don't really like to indulge myself into politics, but have somewhat kept up with small tidbits from yahoo and NPR. I have noticed Shepard Fairley's political poster that was posted a while back. and It started to become apparent to me, that if I were to vote purely on aesthetic campaigns, Obama would win. I am by no means, backing Obama or any political party. and sadly don't know where I fit in that whole scheme. But the poster made me realize that a political campaign/poster CAN look good, and I think would greatly benefit candidates if they realized this. But maybe Obama does realize this. As it has also become clear, that Gotham is his favorite font. Oh, the power of typeface. I love it.

Parachutes

-I woke up at 3 this morning with an incredible pain in my stomach. and some sort of fever, I don't know. It went away, but still kept waking up every hour. I feel better now, even though my stomach never really settled. and that's how I started my Monday. But work went by ok, spent a nice evening scouring the internets and watching tv, and then went for another trip to Pops with Emily, Shannon, Mike and Heather. Too cold for photos, I think maybe during the summer, I'll try to reshoot some photos.

-Skateboard-The Future Car
-Logo Trends for 2008
-Better View Blinds
-Questionable Rejected Star Wars Merch. I think I need that TaunTaun suit for Halloween this year.
-Evolution of Car Logos. Giving BMW the best car logo award, especially after realizing how long it's stood over time.
-Evolution of Nintendo Characters
-Sharp Shootin' Remote Gun
-Sometimes Blue, Somtimes Red. Exactly what it says.
-Where the Wild Things Are Clip. It's a bit odd, and I'm not totally sure how I feel about it. Half excited, half skeptical still.

-Oh yeah, Lindsay got us going on some roller derby last night. Something none of us had gone too. First half was not very eventful, just a few girls falling down. Second half delivered, including a collision with a fan. I feel bad I didn't take my camera to get a few shots. On the sidenote, the Farmers Market is one neat building. I didn't get any photos, but managed to find one photo of the venue last night on flickr.

All Around Our Feet

For some reason today, I couldn't concentrate. Couldn't seem to wrap my head around getting anything accomplished. except washing extra pans. and half watching Lars and The Real Girl. which was...interesting.

-What Happens When Geeks Have Children
-Eaten by Trees
-10 Mistakes in Icon Design
-How Americans Spend Their Money
-Disappearing Car Door. Whaaaaaaa.
-Largest Arch Bridge being built in Dubai (the architectural capitol of the world)
-There Will Be Blood, Saved By The Bell style. For some reason, I wanted Screech to yell out, "I Drink Your MILKSHAKE!, I Drink it UP!" but it didn't happen.
-And if you havne't figured out already, the new Indiana Jones Trailer is out. and I'm excited.

Let the Fotographic Voyage Begin...

I will be gone the rest of the week, embarking on a photographic voyage with Shannon & Emily to NM. So everyone send over your links while I'm gone from the internets.

-Top 100 Essential Mac Apps
. Definately a nice link, I have some of these programs, and will be adding more.
-Overlap of the same newsbroadcasts.
-The Soda Pop Chicken Holder. The greatest-worst fast food invention. sounds like a good idea, til you get your soggy chicken.
-Pre Owned Bookmarks. Someone's collective of found bookmarks.
-There must be some kind of Dark Knight trend. Lego Dark Knight Trailer.
-New Honda Commercial, from the same people that did the cog commercial. Not as good, but nice choice of life aquatic music. and the first part is good, with the rubik's cubes.
-Lindsay sent this over on my lunch break. Pick up your Weiner Poopie.

And so it begins...

Last weekend was pretty good. It was good visiting/seeing the friends and whatnot.
I had a couple of these links saved from Friday but didn't make a post. Here we go.

-The Exhaust Burger. Interesting idea.
-Which actor would play which Graphic Designer. Some of the similarities between the two are uncanny.
-26 Types of Animals. A different type face for each animal. brilliant.
-The Dry Side. Solution to wet benches.
-Tic Tac Toast.
-Frozen Grand Central.

I caught bits and pieces of the Superbowl last night, and tried to catch some of the commercials. Overall, pretty weak, if you ask me. There was a couple decent ones.
-Yahoo's Top Super Bowl Commercials.
-All of the Others.
But I think this was my favorite of the bunch:

-The Dark Knight. 60's Style.
-Shannon just sent this over to me a bit ago. Wii saber for your Mac, using your wiimote. sweet.

The Pre Friday Kick Off

-Ok, not much of a kick off. I just now I'll be busy tomorrow morning and thought I'd throw up a few links before Friday.

-Universal Scale. From Nikon. Kind of takes a while to get past all the flash business.
-Another Rodney Mullen Video from the past. He's still the man.
-Human pinball, Japanese style. Those Japanese are crazy.
-To Do Tattoos.
-Car Logo Rip Offs.
-Leaked Super Bowl Commercial. This is prob. a clever move, creating twice as much viewing than the superbowl, maybe.
-Tubelor Trashcan. To cleverly hide away the trashbag liner....Niiiiiice.
-I recently noticed that Baskin Robbins redid their logo. and it's awful. If anyone could explain to me what the concept is, please let me know.

-As far as the weekend goes. Possible viewing of King of Kongs Sunday evening. Not totally sure. but been waiting forever to watch it. and Today is Emily's bday. Happy Birthday. and I will be attending:

Emily's Birthday Extravaganza
