Day Minus One

We'll folks, we're slightly ahead of schedule and in true Chris fashion, the internet is going to be the last things packed. We're about 90-95% complete. I'm trying to soak up my last few minutes of internet time tonight. But if all goes well, we might be departing tomorrow. I will be making updates if and when I have internet access again. Farewell Oklahoma.

Moving FAQ

Are you excited?
Yes and No. Any excitement has thus been cancelled by the anxiety of finding a job and vice versa. So I've been in this very middleground mood lately. Either that, or everything hasn't quite hit me yet. or both. Anxious is probably a more appropriate term.

Are you flying or driving?
We are driving folks. We're getting a Uhaul, that pulling Mike's car, and then I will be driving my car behind.

So how long a drive is that?
Three days. 10+10+8. Some long days in there. First day's stop: probably CO. Second Day: Idaho. Third day: WA.

Do you have a job lined up?
No, see above.

What are doing when you get out there?
Mike's good friend has offered us a room to stay temporary. The game plan is to find us a couple jobs, then a place to live in Seattle. We'll see how it goes.

Hey, Maybe I'll go visit you sometime.
Yes, please do. Visitors are always welcome. Just don't be one of those people that SAYS they are, and don't. If and when we have a place, you'll be more than welcome to sleep on our floor.

What does your family think?
Well, first off, you should prob. ask them. They'll probably give you a proper response. But my family are great supporters in our decisions, and I believe they totally understand Mike and my decision. Plus it gives them a cool place to visit. Everyone wins.

That's funny that you're moving to Seattle and their basketball team is coming to OKC.
Yes, that is funny. We're moving wherever the Sonics aren't. Seattle is getting an MLS team in 2009 anyways, plus they have football, baseball. and hockey in Vancouver.

Why Seattle?
Ocean, Mountains, more Design opportunities (or so it seems), Canada within reach, Cooler weather (no tornadoes), more things to do (museums/concerts/as well as other various social events), better music scene, a change of environment, and mostly the fact someone offered us the opportunity that we felt we shouldn't pass up.

Are you ready?
No, not sure how, but we will be ready when the time comes.

What are you looking forward to?
Right now? It not being 100 degree weather. But I think, besides that, being in a place that seems to just harvest design.

When are you leaving again?
September 2nd.

Can I have your address to send you something?
Why of course. Just email me or let me know, and I will send you our temporary address.

You just going to go straight into job hunting when you arrive?
Not quite. We are going to take the first few days to acclimate ourselves and get adjusted. Then we will hit the job market full force.

Can I make you a mix for the road? (ok, no one has asked this)
YES, please do, taking submissions now!

If your question has not been answered above, please email me, and I will post the response.

Go Run Along My Little Nightmare

My updates are dwindling down, due to the building up of other priorities. A week left here and there is still TONS to get taken care of. It's getting kind of hard to catch up with us as well, as our schedules are going to be filled up. We'll gladly take up any offers to take us out for some lunch though, ha. Our fridge is near empty, with mostly just beverages and we're about sick of eating leftovers. Just trying to drain the food out.

Last Saturday, Mike, Me and Kelly recorded a cover, Sadie (Alkaline Trio), and tonight we put a few finishing touches on it and Kelly mixed it. Here is it for your full enjoyment: SADIE.

7 Days.

Five Shirts You Can Buy Me

1. Font Savant. Why, yes, I am.

2. House Industries-Ampersand. Can't deny the typographical masters of House.

3. Artefacture-RE. Actually, you could get me anything from this place that I don't have.

4. Girls Want My Fonts. What Can I Say, They Do.

5. serviceisgood-Ampersand. I've been eyeballing this for a long time now. Just can't seem to be able to dive into that 30 dollar price for a t-shirt.

Rainy Days=Preparation

It's funny how it's the greyest rainiest day of the month, and I come home. and Mike and I are in good moods. That's definately a good thing. And we both got the "you better get ready for this weather when you move." today.....

Two weeks. The countdown has officially begun.

Mike and I have been getting a lot of questions regarding our trek westward. So here's the gameplan everyone. We are getting our uHaul (actually Budget truck) on the 31st. and will be packing that thing like a mad 3-d tetris puzzle. Mike's a professional though (I'm only semi-pro status) but we will get it to work. Our departure is the 2nd. Our good friend Lindsay has volunteered to entertain us on our trip, although we won't all be in the same car. We will have the uHaul, with a trailer pulling mike's car, and then I will be taking my car, following close behind. The trip is a 3 day venture with a stop in CO (Hey Jenn!), a stop in Idaho, and then our travels will be completed in the Emerald City.

This is my last week of work, I took my last of vacation days and will be spending next week preparing (packing and working on my portfolio) myself for the move. I'm not totally sure what my schedule is going to be the next couple weeks but I would like to see as many people as possible. If you're going to be around, let me know, and I will gladly try to move things around to hang out. No guarantees. but call me. Let's make it happen. I would have liked to have some sort of huge gathering for a going away party, but I have so much other stuff for me to really try to coordinate people's schedules.

The Olympics have been like crack for me. I can't stop watching them. Here's a couple Olympic related links for your liking:
-Design and Branding Trends of the Olympics
-Phelp's Miracle Finish-Frame by Frame of Phelps incredible close match against Cavic

Non-Olympics Bonus:
-Windows Window

-and rumor has it, that the new OKC NBA team name is the Thunder. Really? That's it? I could have came up with a better name when I was ten years old......and to be honest, sounds like a WNBA team (does that still exist?).

Links I've Been Too Lazy to Post This Week

I've been wrapped up with the Olympics all week. I can't really pinpoint what it is, but it's been on non stop since the opening ceremony. Speaking of the ceremony, check out these AWESOME photos. The whole show was a bit surreal (and some of it wasn't, apparently) but I definately recommend a viewing for those you didn't catch it.

-Average Athlete Vs. Olympic Athlete
-Introverts And Extraverts: Can’t We Just Get Along? I've been very much interested in the relationship between extra-introverts lately. Mostly due to the fact, I believe easily misunderstand me and my gestures or lack thereof.
-Designer Hard Drives. I'm pretty sure I need the stormtrooper.
-Somehow we got on the discussion of boomboxes at the house, and I brought up the fact that me and Shannon wanted to convert a boombox to an ipod player. and I remembered seeing it like 6 months later. and found it again. Feel free to buy me that too: iPod Boombox. And for all your retro needs, check out Monster 80s Boomboxes, courtesy of Mike
-Twitter invented in 1935
-Donkey Kong Jenga=pure 8 bit awesomeness. I'm pretty sure this is going in the Christmas list this year.
-Faceyourmanga.com. exactly what it says. Here's mine:
Manga Chris

-Movie Poster/Font/Letter Quiz. I got 21 of them, without peaking and then when I was going back through, realized I hadn't even seen most of the ones I got wrong. Go figure.
-Surfstation recently relaunched, and the new layout is ten times better. At least I think so. And lo and behold, Misprinted Type relaunched. How awesome is that. I can't remember that site being anything different. and glad to see some new works from Eduardo. Always inspirational. and can someone lend me 160 bucks so I can buy some new fonts?
-Type Navigator: Visual Font Search. Great tool which I haven't had to use yet.

-In other news, there will be a semi movie marathon occuring at the Lee House this include. All of the movies haven't been announced, although I've been thinking about some Ghost Dad. But headlining the event is Encino Man. Classic.

Wet Gold

It's that time again. The long week just waiting there. Monday is amoung us and just sits there, longing to drown me with an array of emotionally draining circumstances. But I think this week is looking much brighter than the past. I had to work on Saturday, making it a first at Walker, where I had to work 7 days in a row. With that being said, I do believe we're on the downhill with most of our work, so I think things will be slowing down and I won't have to do that the rest of my time there. I also plan on taking a couple days off this month, Sometime, to properly prepare myself for the treacherous job hunt.

On the sidenote, the one and only Octopus Project will be bringing their wondrous tunes of enlightenment to the Opolis on Tuesday, and I will be attending. It has become apparent that everyone that I had planned to go or asked, has somehow turned down the oppurtunity, whether it be money or work or circumstance. That's just a bummer. So, anyone else game?

-businessguysonbusinesstrips: anyone that has had to deal with clients on design jobs will understand and laugh at these.
-I found my new house, can someone lend me 1.149 million dollars?
-Don't drink beer, but definately diggin this beer can design
-Get your fix of movie posters
-Family photograph themselves on the same day every year for 30 years. Nice find, via Bear
-and this has been on everyone's link list this week, Stereoscopic Parking Garage. Very nicely done.
