Not Direct quotes, but as close as I remember.

Tim, Head of the Tacoma Target, in regards of my saying I moved from OK: "That has to be one of the ugliest places, well anywhere in the panhandle." Sure, I admit, OK can be pretty, but it's mostly it's colorful skies. Overall....it's mostly brown there.

Josh, backroom coworker, after I told him I'm a Mac user, and then giving me the worst excuse in the world not to own a Mac: "I could never get into Macs and only having one mouse button."

This being the New Year, I'm taking it upon myself to put more ideas into action. Mostly writing them all down for future reference, as some of my ideas are more long term than a month or a year. and also going to pull a High Fidelity and start Top Five lists. Todays:

Top Five Things to Accomplish This Year
1. Get a job: or a steady cash flow
2. Get out of this house and into my own!
3. Get to Canada: Not really an accomplishment, but something I want to do this year.
4. Release an album. Haven't gotten all the details worked out, but will more than likely be a digital ep.
5. Start planning my own Design Studio. I don't plan to have everything worked out by the end of the year, but I want to start a list of 'to do's' as well as a guideline of what I need to do make it work.

2009

I have yet to come up with a plan for 2009, as far as 'resolutions' are concerned. Just trying to fix one thing at a time. This week's agenda: my external hard drive. Which apparently I was right in the assumption of my files being there. Data Rescue was able to see most of them (after like a 10 hour scan), but they are catagorized by file type. So I guess my directory file is corrupt and not sure if I can get any of my folders/file names/organization back. And I had everything on my hard drive. This is going to be a very time consuming project. and I am not even sure what is or isn't there, so I'm very reluctant to wipe the drive clean just yet. Just going to take every measure to get those files before I just reformat it. I do have the 'recovered' files copied over to a newly bought external, but I'm not sure how I'm ever going to find anything, at least for next couple months. Luckily, I had backed up my Nikon D80 photos (Jan-Oct) and December is on my hard drive, so November is the only month that is limbo. I am also not sure about the status of my design files or my music. Which I had an extensive library so that will take a long while to get back. An ever frustrating situation, but it's the new year and I'm going to do my best to just move foreword.

Top Albums of 2008

These are my picks for 2008. Considering the circumstances, I'd say mine was pretty good. Christmas Ever, we had a Lee family conference call (as deemed by Lindsay), involving a videochat with me and mom/dad/sister and speakerphone with us and then Mike/Lindsay. It's times like these, where you have to appreciate technology. We opened a few gifts via the internets, which was nice. And then today was a little more gift opening, and then sat around and watched a couple movies (National Lampoons, and ET!-I forgot how great this film was) I hope everyone else had a good Christmas and spent time with their loved ones.

Here's a few links that have been sitting in a draft post.

-<a href="http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2008/12/photogalleries/top-ten-photos/index.html"target="blank">National Geographic Top Ten (viewed) photos of 08
-<a href="http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/"target="blank">The Big Picture: the year in photographs (3 parts)
-<a href="http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/node/147930"target="blank">Pitchfork's Top 20 Worst Album Covers
-<a href="http://www.neatorama.com/2008/12/17/metro-art/"target="blank">Tetris art on a subway entrance in France. Classic. That kicked off my mid-week weekend (today is my Friday), and gladly have the next two days off, that I'm quite grateful to have. The roads are still bad, especially parking lots, took me like ten mins to leave the Target parking lot. I'm just going to take the next couple days off, relax, watch some movies and avoid the insanity of the outside world. I have this 'movie-a-day' thing going the past week. It's a bit sad, but more so awesome than lame. Tomorrow begins Christmas movies (Joyeux Noel, National Lampoons, and whatever I can think of....)I have a couple things to do on my to do list, but nothing of real importance right now. Plus it's the holidays. time to just chill. I'm just staying here in Washington. Mike's in Detroit. and my family is still in OK. I think that's a first for our family (everyone being seperated). but we had a good Thanksgiving together. and I'm going to try to video chat with them probably a couple times in the next few days, open some gifts via the internets (I love you internet).

I am also working on my top albums of the year, which is a bit hard trying to remember what all came out this year. but I think it will more than likely be like last years, with a top ten, and then my top post-rock instrumental releases, as there was a lot this year. So look for that, post-Christmas. I thought about doing top movies of the year, but haven't decided if I have the time and effort to put into that list, plus all the big ones are obvious enough (Dark Knight...?)....I'll have to think about that one. With all the viewing I do, it only makes sense. And I'll have another link filled post here shortly...once I get all caught up....

Check <a href="http://flickr.com/photos/insertemotion/"target="blank">my flickr in the next couple days as well, as I will be posting a few photos of the snow out here. and on the sidenote, sledding is no fun by yourself.

Well.

I didn't make it to Seattle this morning. It begins tomorrow at 6:45. Wake up, go to the bus station, take the 7:30, go to downtown Seattle, meet over at Media Index about some work, work there in the morning, take the bus back early afternoon, then go to work at Target at 330-11. And after all that, there's a 50/50 chance I might have to do it all over again Friday. I have my fingers crossed that I won't have to head back up to Seattle on Friday, as in, I will be able to get all of the work done tomorrow. But who knows. Then I close at Target til Sunday. And I know it will be crazy insane busy, because it's the weekend before Christmas. Hopefully we will be well staffed and everything will be OK.......

BUT, I have a few days off after that. I did offer to pick up any available shifts, so it might change, but either way, I will have a couple days off for myself. and then I think I will embark on my own movie marathon.

On that note, I must try to get some sleep.

Oh yeah:
<a href="http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/c48f423bdf/season-2-online-premiere-flight-of-the-conchords-from-flight-of-the-conchords"target="blank">Flight of the Concords Season 2 Online Premiere

Pling Pong

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I'm missing my old 9-to-6 job, as my weeks have been very odd and unconsistent. I actually had a Friday, but I picked up a shift on Sunday, so I barely had a weekend, then I'm off Today, but I have a bunch of stuff to get done, then I'm back to work, wed/thurs. The week is non stop, but I'm thinking I will have a couple days next week to recooperate. That's if I don't get called in. Kind of a win win situation though.

Misc.
-<a href="http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/12/12/lords-of-dogtown-directors-controversial-burger-king-documentaryadvertisment/"target="blank">Controversial Burger King Documentary. Which led me to some <a href="http://blog.cartelagency.com/2008/08/31/the-10-best-designed-criterion-collection-dvds/"target="blank">more awesome Criterion covers. With that being said, I've been quite busy lately, finished up some OK work a couple weeks ago, working party time at Target and I think this next week I will be picking up some work for <a href="http://sportsnwmag.com/"target="blank">Sports NW. But I have been cut some hours at Target this next couple weeks; Not sure what is up with that, but I think I'm going to try to pick up some more hours, because I don't really feel like sitting around here for more than a few days, not doing anything.

Heres some Friday links.

-<a href="http://www.collegeotr.com/gallery/college_otr/the_15_worst_joker_costumes_16485/1#top_of_image"target="blank">15 Worst Joker Costumes
-<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmGQXv8i6Xs"target="blank">Surfing for Seniors. Let me try to summarize it for you:

Monday, 11/24: woke up sick, as I have been for the past couple weeks. Didn't feel good physically, runny nose, and just overall no motivation to really get up. Tried to work on some Oklahoma Today stuff, actually did for a while, and then my internet decided it wouldn't allow me to anymore. Not like my internet just cut off, but just wouldn't let me access a few sites, ones that I needed to do work....so I couldn't do that. Then I had a call from someone at NW Sports mag, about a lead for a freelance gig, and I tried to call back and got the voicemail (called today and got an interview on Tues), Got ready for for work (last day of training). Went to work, had a run-in with the Oscar Meyer Weiner Mobile in the parking lot (let me cross the street). Work went ok. I bought some popcorn to give myself a littler treat and then found free cupcakes in the break room, score! Came home after work. Realized my toe was hurting and some sort of in grown ness going on. Fixed it with in the next day or so. Then finished my Oklahoma Today work. I think I totalled over 10 hours of work. I was tired.

Tuesday, 11/25: Went to Seattle. In some sort of odd coincidence, I found a very close spot in the parking garage and made it early to Seattle (never happens when I have an interview there). I kind of walked around then my way to Mike's work. Participated in this works Super Party Rock Band Party, complete with Ezell's Chicken, which is apparently Oprah's favorite (I was unaware of this). Then after all that, we went half a block down to Nuemos and watched School of Seven Bells and M83. We missed a few songs though, because we had to leave early to catch the bus home. But got to watch a good hour. Good show. Still trying to figure out the mysterious glass box he had.

Wednesday, 11/26: Took care of various errands, grocery store, post office, etc. Then later met up with my parents at McChord AFB. We hung out there for a while, then came home.

Thursday, 11/27: Met up with the family and made our way to the beach, with stops in Olympia. Ill have some pictures uploaded soon, I still have to edit some. Then after the beach, we went over to Shari's for Thanksgiving dinner, then came back to Tacoma and went through the Bridge of Glass and looked at some of Glass Museum down there.

Friday, 11/28: Had work from 8-4:30. I hate you Black Friday. Actually work wasn't too bad, just was my first day out of training. and it was non stop all day. After work, met up with the family and had an awesome burger at Red Robin. I missed out on the adventures to Seattle, but they brought me back a present, which was nice. Afterwards, we went to REI and they bought me a new coat, which is my early Christmas present. Thanks Mom and Dad!

Saturday, 11/29: Had work from 8-4:30 again. But the family popped in on my lunch break and brought me pizza. That helped the day go by quicker. Then after work, we just hung out at my parents quarters.

Sunday, 11/30: Work.

Monday, 12/01: Work.

Tuesday, 12/02: Woke up at 6:45 (Mike's Usual), then rode to downtown Seattle with him, and had an interview over at Media Index Publishing for a freelance gig. So far it's looking promising, just have to figure out a way to make sure our files are compatible with each other (they use Quark...who uses Quark?). The interview was pretty quick, then I started to make my way to Mike's work for lunch. Ended up stopping at an awesome book store, Elliott Bay Book Company, scored this book for 15 bucks, and then made a stop at a great toy store and H&M. I got to Mike's work, but he had to finish a project before 2, which ended up being like 2:30. Then we went at some good brisket sandwiches at the Honey Hole. and then I came home. Later, we jammed for a bit, which was an odd blend of music, something in the middle of Seaweed, Fugazi, Mogwai, and Dinosaur Jr. But ended on quite a good note. Then I made an ice cream run, watched Dexter and went to sleep.

Today. Well, Today has been my first 'off day,' and I've been taking the opportunity to try to catch up on the internets and emails and trying to make a list of things I need to do. Probably edit some photos, find some more jobs to apply to. I will have some more recent photos uploaded to flickr soon, and quite possibly some linkage later this week.

Another Leaf Turns

I have a lot going on and a lot to discuss, but my family is here (YEAY!) in WA visiting for a few days (although I have work Fri/Sat, BOO!) but i will have a more lengthy update when everything returns to normal schedule.

Happy Turkey Day.

Free DP

Get your <a href="http://www.drpepper.com/text/"target="blank">free Dr. Pepper,<a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081120/ap_on_en_mu/guns_n_roses_dr_pepper"target="blank"> courtesy of Guns n Roses. Not really sure what that means, I start training on Saturday. I train for 3 days then have 3 days off and then my first is........Black Friday. Impeccable timing. Wish me luck that one.

Found some new design links to pass time on your Friday:

-<a href="http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/11/19/40-exquisite-independent-film-posters/"target="blank">40 Indie Film Posters. I'm not really scared about the job, more like, scared that my first week of work will involve Black Friday. and I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'm off Tuesday for M83.

And in other news, I was informed today that everyone works Christmas Eve and the day after, so I won't be going anywhere for the holidays. Yay for retail!

Playing the Role of Suzy Homemaker

...As Mike so bluntly put, earlier this evening. This was in response to the fact that I cooked dinner tonight (for everyone), made some cookies (snickerdoodles, yes!), went grocery shopping (w/quite an extensive list), did some laundry, and did some of the dishes. I'm going to miss having the free time though. I feel like I'm in some sort of weird job limbo right now, with the Target thing, still kind of sitting there. I'm supposed to go in sometime this week, but just waiting for them to call me. I've been looking online and there really hasn't been in a new postings in over a week, at least none that I'm qualified for or even seem like I would be remotely suitable for the job.

Here's some mid-week linkage:

-No ban on nudity at Seattle Parks. Kyle sent this to me the other day. A bit frightening.
-Family Guy Grape Stomp. Anyone who is up on classic internet videos, will enjoy this.
-Apple Apples, but not made from Apple
-Points of View. Thus proving once again, I'm a realist, not a pessimist.
-Fan Free Agent. I only post this because it has something to do with the Sonics moving to OKC (which consequently involves where I moved to and from): fan is on a search for a new team to route for, since the Sonics moved.
-Everything's Amazing, Nobody is Happy. Well put Mr. CK.
-Javascript Drum Machine
-A Conversation with Richard Renaldi, who worked on a series involving taking pictures of touching strangers. Interesting.

-And I found my other new house that I will be living in, in Seattle.

And a bit THANK YOU to my family for the package yesterday, which included the following: Star War lego mini pack, General Hawk G.I.Joe, mini LCD videogame, photo album of the great OK Landscape (quite a contrast), candy bar, t-shirt (of this design), Kinder Eggs!, cotton, new pens, and an X-Men dvd. Oh yeah, and my mail, which included in my Print Design Annual (Score). Awesome. Made my week.

And I'm officially adding these to the wishlist:
<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/37663807/c/165813.html"target="blank">

I got a job (sort of).

I took the advice from my dad and brother and decided to venture into getting a part-time job at the very close Target. I had an interview on Thursday, and it looks like they're going to bring me aboard. It's not official quite yet, supposed to go sometime this week to start all that business: orientation, etc. Although I'm looking forward to staying busy, having a paycheck, interacting with real people, there's still a little itch on the back of my head that bothers me. Mostly due to the fact that I've taken another step backwards, but hopefully another step back that will eventually lead me forward. The last 2.5 months have been all about stepping out of my comfort zone, and this is no different. But it will be an adventure to some degree, and maybe I'll meet some people along the way.

I was going to make an end of the week post last week, but it has somehow turned into a Monday post. Here's some late internet happenings:

-<a href="http://blog.pentagram.com/2008/10/take-a-ride-on-the-culturebus.php
"target="blank">Culture Bus. I'm deeming this logo of the year, Pentagram proving once again why they're the premier design group.
-<a href="http://www.subliminalprojects.com/main/current/"target="blank">House Industries Exhibit. I want to go, but I don't live in LA.
-<a href="http://www.thedieline.com/"target="blank">The Die Line. Another package design site to add to the blogroll.
-<a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=ro-obama111008&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
"target="blank">Obama might increase the chances of World Cup coming to the USA again. YES.
-<a href="http://www.fao.com/custsvc/custsvc.jsp?sectionId=599"target="blank">Make Your Own Muppet (and purchase it). Not sure why you would want to, but it's there now.
-<a href="http://demo.fb.se/e/ikea/comeintothecloset2/site/default.html"target="blank">IKEA Interactive Closet. You can upload your own music to effect the movement of the characters. Via <a href="http://cityofmichael.wordpress.com/"target="blank">Mike
-<a href="http://www.spoon-tamago.com/2008/11/13/so-simple-yet-so-genious/"target="blank">Highlighter redesign, allowing 3 different marks. Nice.
-And if you haven't already, a <a href="http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808406490/video/10658091"target="blank">new Watchmen trailer is out. I've noticed they have yet to use any original music for their trailers. First half of the new one is straight from <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvAdseQnD3Q"target="blank">Koyannisquatsi, which I guess is actually used in the movie.

Art Contests

Failed to mention this earlier this week, but my sister got first place at her art contest at my former college this past week.
